Summary, etc. In the past 20 years, there has been a massive revolution in information and communication technology (ICT). But in many classrooms, you could be forgiven for thinking this revolution never occurred. Not only do today's young people own multiple ICTs, they use them constantly in their day-to-day life. It's easy to regard the shift in use of technology as being something fundamentally new, but it's not. For many young people, staying in close and regular contact with their peer group is very important. Remember when you socialised for hours on the telephone? Today it's YouTube, MySpace and Facebook where young people build social networks and use ways that they feel most comfortable exchanging information. "Chalk and talk" might just still work, but it's hard work, and ignoring communication methods that can be much more effective for today's student only makes your job harder. This program opens up a discussion about e-learning: what it's good for, why we need it, and how we can encourage it in our schools. It looks at the revolution in youth communications, the implications of this on education, the meaning of multiliteracy and recent developments in e-learning from industry leaders.
