In Muslim Lucknow at the turn of the century a dancer/courtesan dreams of escaping her dishonorable life but, rejected by her husband's family, dies in a graveyard giving birth to a daughter who grows up to become a courtesan as well, but eventually does find happiness in marriage and acceptance in her father's family.
