Summary: This book comprises nine selected research papers, six of which were presented at the Regional Conference on Women and work: Challenges in Industrializing Nations which was held on 5 to 6 March, 1997 at Putrajaya, Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia. The conference was organized by The Women's Studies Unit, Department of Extension Education, Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Papers were selected for inclusion on the basis of their originality, insightful analysis and thoughtful consideration contributing towards enchancing knowledge in Women's Studies. Although the coverage is by no means comprehensive for the Southeast Asian region, due to its concentration on the Malaysian situation, with the exception of the Philippines and Thailand, the theoretical insights and practical implications of the research are of relevance to other countries in the region. - Foreword.
