On Aug. 12, 1985, Japanese flight, JAL 123, a Boeing 747, crashed into the Japanese Alps. United States airforce personnel, training in the area, heard the unfolding disaster. Representatives from Boeing in the United States came to Japan to assist in the subsequent investigation. This programme looks at events around the accident, the rescue operation and investigation. It reveals that cross-cultural difficulties and misunderstandings not only hampered the investigation, but delayed the rescue mission.
