On a hot July evening in 1981, 200 people were enjoying a 1940s-style 'tea dance' at the recently opened Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. A few minutes after 7pm, part of the hotel atrium collapsed, killing 114 dancers below and injuring hundreds. This dramatic and moving film re-creates that terrible night, explaining how so many people lost their lives, and how many more were saved in a heroic rescue effort. It also reveals the catalogue of human errors that lay behind the flawed design, in one of the largest accidental structural failures in American history.
